Aphasia

Aphasia is a complex language and communication disorder resulting from damage to the language centres of the brain caused by a stroke or brain injury.

Dysarthria

Dysarthria is a speech disorder caused by muscle weakness. It can make it hard for you to talk. Common causes of dysarthria include nervous system disorders and conditions that cause facial paralysis or tongue or throat muscle weakness as a result of a stroke or brain injury.

Apraxia

Apraxia is a motor planning speech disorder that makes it hard to speak. This disorder can make saying the right sounds and words very difficult.

Stuttering

Stuttering also known as Disfluency, is a speech disorder in which the flow of speech is disrupted.

Voice

A voice disorder occurs when voice quality, pitch, and loudness differ or are inappropriate for an individual's age, gender, cultural background, or geographic location.

Dysphagia (Swallowing Disorders)

Dysphagia is the medical term for swallowing difficulties. A swallowing disorder, may occur as a result of various medical conditions, including Stroke, Brain injury or Neurodegenerative diseases as a result of a stroke or brain injury.

At our practice, we take pride in our family-centred approach, ensuring that each child and their loved ones receive the individualised care and support they need. Both Christopher and Mia are committed to helping children of all ages and backgrounds reach their communication milestones, whether it’s improving articulation, language development, or addressing speech disorders. We offer diagnostic assessment and therapy in both English and Afrikaans at our practice rooms in Gardens or Panorama.

Our team currently provide therapy in private and government pre-schools, Montessori and primary schools in and around Cape Town.

Christopher has a special interest in working with younger children and their families from 12 months and older and supports children all the way up to Grade 7. He has a passion for working with early childhood intervention (ECI), stuttering, voice pathology, speech sound disorders (SSD), early language delays and early literacy.

Mia most enjoys working with pre-schoolers up to Grade 3 and her special interests are all things speech sound disorder (SSD), literacy and learning.
